Nailed It

For awhile now my Mom has been telling me to audition for voice overs. She thinks I have a great radio voice and I have so many accents and voices that she knew I would do great.
She reminded me that she MADE me try out for track, and I was actually really good at it. One of the best decisions I made in high school.
So I went to Open Call auditions this Friday. Took Claire for carpool and my Mom to take care of Claire.
I went in not knowing anything. I was sweating so bad. And my hands were soooo clammy.
I made small talk with a Mom and Son who have been to 9 open calls in WA and 5 in CA. I felt like an idiot. Even my headshot wasn't "audition" worthy.

Finally my name was called and I shook (with my nasty hand), the ladies hand. I made small talk and made her laugh. We went into the room that had a camera pointed right at me.
She asked for my resume and headshot.

"I'm going to be honest. This is the first open call I have ever been too. I don't have a resume, but I do have a headshot"
"Oh lovely! Well we get people from all walks of life. Would you consider modeling?"
"Well.... (points to body) I'm not really runway material."
(She laughs)
"Well we do print modeling and commercials. What are you here for today?"
"Voice-over jobs"
"Well do you have a monologue?"
"Yes I do!"
"Okay, so I am going to film you, and then I will show Colleen (she's the owner), and we will review and get back to you"
"Okay! (I do my one minute monologue)"

She turns off the camera. Looks down, then up at me.
"Well I'm going to be honest. I didn't think you were going to do that well. I would like to offer you representation right now"
"Are you serious?! That's awesome!"
"If you sign with us we will e-mail you jobs. You can choose if you want to take them or not."

As I walked out of the office with my contract in hand I looked at the mom who gave me a look of "Did you get it?" And I replied.

"Nailed it."

I felt like I was on top of the world you guys. She didn't even have to show Colleen.
Apparently there are some other agencies in the area that take a 10% cut. Colleen takes 20%.
I have 30 days to sign, so I am trying to get some more interviews and see what happens.

Whatever does happen, it's still pretty cool to say I was offered representation.
